  19. The 0.9b release of the basic WWW daemon (httpd) contains a few bug  
  20. fixes, and the ability to browse directories.  Note that the 0.9a  
  21. release was buggy and should not be used (Thanks to Jon Streets/FNAL  
  22. and Peter Lister/Cranfield for pointing this out.)

  24. The new release is available by anonymous FTP as usual on
  25. host info.cern.ch, in /pub/www/src/WWDaemon_0.9b.tar.Z.
  26. You also need /pub/www/src/WWWLibrary_1.0a.tar.Z.

  28. New in this release:
  29.  
  30.  -    Directory browse: if a directory name is given,
  31.      it is returned as hypertext.  This is opional: it can
  32.     be always enabled, always diabled, or enabled
  33.     only for directories containing a file
  34.     named ".www_browsable".

  37.  -    README inclusion:  When a directory contains a
  38.      README file, the file may be included either linked
  39.     to the list with all the other files, or may have its
  40.     text embedded before or after the list.

  42. By using these features, a WWW server can be set up to serve
  43. existing trees containing for example plain text files with
  44. very little effort.

  46. The online documentation gives the new command line options
  47. -dy -dn -ds -db -dt and -dr which control the directory browsing.

  49. (The server has been tested on the NeXT.  Any bugs to me ASAP
  50. please!)
